Online and in-house teaching solution

Project background
Ark Byron Primary Academy, located in West London, opened in 2015 and accepts pupils aged 4-11. Dragons Teaching were already providing Spanish teaching (inclusive of teachers and resources) for Years 3-6, but in 2021 the school’s Year 1 Spanish teacher left suddenly, resulting in an urgent need for teacher cover and the creation of lesson content.
How Dragons Teaching were able to help
Ark Byron Primary Academy had a curriculum in place for the Spanish programme, though no formal materials as these were created by their teachers. Dragons Teaching combined the Ark Byron curriculum with our own full Spanish curriculum to create differentiated, age-appropriate materials for the Key Stage 1 students. This included arts and crafts cultural activities to bring the learning of Spanish to life.
We then sought and recruited two teachers with specific Key Stage 1 experience. They were supported by our in house QTS Spanish academic lead to curate the material and deliver the lessons. Our team then quality-assured the material and the delivery on a regular basis, reporting progress to the school.

“Dragons Teaching have provided our school, Ark Byron Primary Academy, with a consistent, progressive Spanish Curriculum starting from Year 1 up to Year 6. The Leadership Team at Dragons Teaching have provided significant support in developing their Curriculum and Progression Maps to reflect the intent of our academy and subject. This has ensured that children are successfully building on their prior learning to reach their maximum potential in a modern foreign language. Dragons Teaching have offered Ark Byron various teaching structures which are suitably adapted to the needs of our school. Although this is our first year of working with Dragons Teaching to roll out a Spanish Curriculum, the pupil voice feedback highlights that pupils enjoy the lessons provided by these specialist teachers and that their Spanish speaking and listening knowledge has improved over the course of the year. Ark Byron Primary Academy look forward to collaborating further with the Spanish team at Dragons teacher to develop the quality of teaching and unique services offered by this education provider during the next academic year – 2022/2023.”
