Project Background
Queen’s Gate School is an independent day school for girls aged 4-18 in South Kensington, London. Since 2015, Dragons Teaching has been teaching Mandarin in Queen’s Gate Senior School for Year 9 to Year 11 utilising the AQA GCSE curriculum (providing roughly 2 hours per week per class).
The girls are given the opportunity to chose their language option in Year 8, to help them with this choice Queen’s Gate school provides them a taster day to experience all languages on offer. The school asked Dragons Teaching to provide the Mandarin taster, however due to limited notice, the usual Dragons teacher was not able to give this taster in person.
How Dragons Teaching were able to help
In under 24 hours, Dragons Teaching was able to provide a 3 taster classes with an excellent online teacher, one of our Taiwan-based teachers. Our teacher used our DragonsConnect beginners materials to introduce Mandarin to the Year 8’s, these taster sessions included a language and cultural focus to give an overview of how the GCSE curriculum is taught. We look forwards to finding out how many of the students opt to take Mandarin at GCSE level.
