DragonsConnect, the online Mandarin learning platform from Dragons Teaching, has been recognised as a recommended resource for the Mandarin Excellence Programme (MEP).
The Mandarin Excellence Programme, launched in 2016, is an intensive programme delivered in partnership between the IOE, British Council and the DfE at secondary schools, which aims to promote the learning of Mandarin throughout the UK. All students on the programme spend eight hours a week studying the language. There are currently 8,000 students enrolled on the programme.
In the summer of 2020, Dragons Teaching began a pilot collaboration with a group of MEP schools to promote learning Mandarin to their feeder primary schools via DragonsConnect – a blended online learning platform, combining live teaching and interactive exercises. Through this collaboration, over 400 primary school pupils experienced their first taste of learning Mandarin via DragonsConnect and this has led to a positive increase in enrollments for the MEP programme across these secondary schools.
“Our experience of Dragons was excellent and has increased our numbers in the MEP from 15 to over 20.”Russell Plester, Headteacher at Finham Park 2 School (Coventry)
Marcus Reoch, Founder and Managing Director of Dragons Teaching, said: “I am delighted that our Year 6 ‘My Week in China’ programme has been so well received by MEP Schools. Dragons has always aimed to help demystify Mandarin before starting the language at secondary level. This exciting joined-up approach is sure to be hugely impactful in terms of increasing the numbers of young learners going to GCSE and beyond.”
