We are Dragons
Dedicated to language learning
Founder & Managing Director
Marcus fell in love with China in 2006, while living with a Chinese family in Shanghai and learning Mandarin. He set up Dragons to spread his passion for Mandarin Chinese. At the same time as managing the company, Marcus still teaches Chinese every week, as he never wants to lose the spark of education.
Julian brings a wide experience of leadership in education and publishing. As CEO of the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET), a UK-based group of primary and secondary schools, Julian is deeply passionate about excellence in education.
Senior Advisor – Strategy
Nick has spent over 15 years in the international education sector, where his experience includes management, investment and strategic financial advisory roles across a number of businesses. Prior to this, he worked in accountancy and investment banking for multinational organisations such as KPMG, Bankers Trust and NM Rothschild & Sons. He has a degree in French and Spanish and is also fluent in Portuguese, having lived in Brazil for over 5 years.
Dr Helen Wright
Senior Advisor – Education
Helen brings extensive global experience in education as a former Head of 3 leading schools, and a non-executive director of a number of educational organisations in the UK and abroad. She is currently working with schools across the world to challenge leaders to think innovatively about futures-focused education; and as an educator who studied for her first degree in languages at the University of Oxford she is particularly passionate about learning without borders.
Head of Chinese Teaching
Harick first started with Dragons teaching Mandarin Chinese to primary and secondary schoolers and tutoring adults online in classes and one to one. A native Mandarin Chinese speaker – amongst several other Chinese dialects – Harick always dreamed of a career in education after a background in hospitality and marine tourism, where his first teaching experience was training people to scuba dive in Malaysia.
Christelle brings her wealth of experience working in organisations ranging from a non-profit to a publicy-traded global firm to Dragons. She has worked in schools both in the UK and in France and excels in supporting the design, deployment and assessment of programs that improve skills and knowledge. Christelle is passionate about the education sector and making a difference to children’s lives.
Sophia is a keen linguist, fluent in German and Spanish and holding a first class degree in both languages. She has worked in Germany but has a particular interest in Latin American culture, history and mythology, spending a year in Mexico during the course of her studies. With an eye for detail and problem-solving, Sophia’s customer-orientated experience makes her an invaluable member of the Dragons team.
Mara brings her global experience to the Dragons team, having attended school in China and graduating from the prestigious Peking University in Beijing. Fluent in English, Romanian and Mandarin, Mara has previously worked in the private sector to drive growth through maintaining client relationships as well as working as a tutor to help young learners on their language journey.
Ben initially read Classics at university before falling in love with China through martial arts. After an intense postgraduate Mandarin course he went to China for 4 months and stayed for 8 years, gaining another degree in Chinese before moving to Beijing. He has worked in communication and business development roles since then and, once back in the UK, completed a PGCE in Mandarin before joining Dragons.
Alex holds a BA in German, Russian and Spanish from the University of Exeter. He has a solid operational, marketing and sales background from a leading London tech start-up dedicated to safeguarding children on social media platforms. Alex’s mission is to help improve the lives of children through technology.
